During a field survey trip to a Brazilian jungle, a group of veterinary students suddenly encountered extremely “unexpected” obstacles.
In front of them was a South American moon (anaconda), a giant creature that often lives in the Amazon river basin, South America.
One of the students present there, Antonio Stábile dos Santos, said the giant moon crossing the road had a “terrible” length, estimated to be more than 6 meters.
However, what is even more special is that the super “long, giant” python does not go alone, with it are 2 or 3 smaller pythons.
According to what Santos observed, the smaller pythons that were accompanying the giant moon across the street were males, and these were trying to flirt with her giant moon. This is also understandable because in the world of South American pythons, males only have a maximum length of about 2.5 m – 3.5 m, while for females the length can be from 4 m – more than 7, 5 m.
But it seems, none of the male pythons made an impression on the females. It’s easy to see that through the way the female python “indifferently” crawled straight across the road.
There is an interesting point about the reproduction method of South American pythons, which is that unlike regular pythons that lay eggs, South American pythons are species that give birth to live young. They can give birth from 10 to 50 babies per litter (the record is 100 babies).
In addition, female South American pythons sometimes have a “cruel” habit after mating, which is to swallow their partner alive.
According to research by biological experts, the above phenomenon is not uncommon in the South American moon world. The reason why females eat males after mating is to supplement protein for the body. During pregnancy, children will have to reduce their appetite and travel. Therefore, supplementing energy immediately after mating is essential for the subsequent survival of the female python.
With the huge physical advantage between females and males, it is quite understandable that females can “easily” kill males.
Santos confided that he would never be able to forget this scene. “You’re not always lucky enough to admire unique scenes like this, especially when you have to sit in class. Therefore, the lasting impressions of it will be very strong difficult to fade among us “, Santos said.
